GOALPARA: The Goalpara district chapter of Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a symbolic protest on Wednesday in front of its Hasila bus stand office.

The organization expressed solidarity with the sufferings of the affected people and demanded the district administration to provide adequate relief to all. The activists submitted a memorandum at the Goalpara DC's office.

The organization insisted upon providing free ploughing in the fields of those farmers whose agricultural land had been devastated during the floods, besides supplying free seeds. Immediate repairing of the breached embankments like Jaleswar Chilarbhita and Krishnai Moinamoti along with flood-damaged roads were some of the other important demands by the communist party. The CPI (M) finally reiterated their demand for declaring the flood and erosion problem of Assam as a national calamity by the Union Government.

On the other hand, the Goalpara district AAMSU on Tuesday alleged that the camp inmates of Lakhipur Hatogaon ME School and Kantapur ME School had not received any relief materials for the last 10 days. Another student organization, Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti on Tuesday distributed relief items among flood-affected people.

A team of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) also visited the different flood-affected areas of the district, including Krishnai and adjacent areas, under the supervision of general secretary Rakesh Chakravorty. Dewan Mofijur Rahman Raufy, another Youth Congress leader, also visited the flood-affected Krishnai and Sidhabari areas and exchanged views with the affected people.

A total of 4.70 lakh people have been affected in the latest flash food in Goalpara district and 19,000 people are still in 88 relief camps of the district.

Meanwhile, district administration sources refuted claims of inadequate supply and distribution of flood-affectedrelief materials and said that proper steps had been taken to handle COVID-19 and flood relief measures at the same time. The source also revealed that government employees were working selflessly and on a war footing.
