DOOMDOOMA: Hamen Das, former MLA and State Secretariat Member, Communist Party of India (Marxist) who addressed a number of election meetings at Chabua, Sadiya and Doomdooma LAC said that people of Assam were never communal, nor they are communal now or will be so in future. So he exhorted people to defeat ‘communal’ BJP in view of their current activities to demolish the very fabric of the society by trying to divide people on communal line.
Making a scathing attack on BJP he said that in the living memory of people, no other political party had deceived people or tell lies the way they do in India since independence.
The party which boasts of patriotism did not hesitate to sell the various assets of the country to the big capitalist groups. So people who are concerned for welfare of the people should straightway reject BJP in the ensuring election, he said. The CPI(M) has fielded Amiya Kumar Handique as its candidate for 14 Lakhimpur Parliamentary Constituency. Unlike in the past the party expect to give a good fight to BJP this time.
According to party sources, its campaigning was gaining momentum in the north bank in places like Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Dhakuakhana, Gogamukh etc with its workforce at the grassroots level working hard day and night. On the other hand Tapan Sharma, Secretary, CITU who accompanied Hamen Das in electioneering said that the State government which failed to make arrear payment to the workers of two paper mills had no right to seek votes from the people of Assam. On the State BJP government’s move to deposit Rs 5,000 in the account of the tea-labourers, he significantly revealed that by doing so the State BJP government had given a waival of Rs 78,000 per worker to the Tea Company Management instead of compelling them to pay wage at the rate of Rs 351 per day.
