LAKHIMPUR: The community contagion of COVID-19 pandemic during the second wave continues in Lakhimpur district despite over a week-long containment since July 7. Like the previous days, a total of 126 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected in the district on Friday. Including this figure, a total of 1,563 COVID-19 patients were reported during the 10 day-long containment period till day.

On Friday, 119 cases were detected as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while rest 7 cases were detected as per Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) Test. The detected cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital (14), Dhalpur BPHC (3), Bihpuriya BPHC (31), Naoboicha BPHC (29), Boginadi BPHC (12), Dhakuakhana BPHC (10), Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (13) and Private Nursing Homes (1).On this day, the District Health Department conducted only 4,929 RATs in the nine COVID-19 test centres of the district, including the Block Primary Health Centers (BPHCs) and private nursing homes, and registered 71.92 per cent achievement in conducting the RAT in order to detect COVID-19 patients out of the targeted figure 6,860.

With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district during the second wave of the pandemic has hiked to 8,971 since April 1 of this year. Out of them, 7,982 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while 897 are active cases at present. On Friday, 101 recovered patients were discharged from institutional isolation while 37 recovered patients were discharged from home isolation. During the second wave, 92 people succumbed to COVID-19 in the district, raising the overall tally of the pandemic fatalities up to 151, including last year's fatalities.

As per report found from District Health Department, a total of 2,80,199 RATs and 23,118 RTPCR Tests were conducted in the district till day since April 1. Out of them 8,403 persons tested positive for COVID-19 as per RAT and 568 people were found to be infected with novel coronavirus as per RTPCR Test. The positivity rate in the district till Friday was 2.96 per cent while recovery rate was 88.98 per cent. The mortality rate registered in the district till day is 1.03 per cent.
