Community fishing at Longa Irrigation at Ramfalbil in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: Hundreds of people thronged the Longa Irrigation Sluice gate situated at Ramfalbil in Kokrajhar and participated in community fishing since Friday morning. People, irrespective of gender, caste and community, young and old from greater Ramfalbil, Serfanguri and even from Kokrajhar town went to Longa River since early morning and were seen catching fish. Various types of fish like bhoal, rahu, bami, kushia, puti and other small fish were caught. Traditional materials like Koloi, Polo, Jekhai were used by the villagers for fishing which added colour to the whole event. The Longa Irrigation Sluice gate releases the river water every year on October 31 and people gether for community fishing on November 1.
