LAKHIMPUR: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that Congress party was hatching conspiracy with the AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) to hand over the mati (land) and bheti (foundation) of Assam to illegal Bangladeshi migrants. He called upon the people of Assam to check the conspiracy in order to secure the very existence of the State.

The Chief Minister said so while taking part in an election campaign programme which was organized in Lakhimpur on Saturday. The programme was held at Joyhing-Koylamari tea estate playground under No. 111 Lakhimpur Legislative Assembly Constituency in support of BJP-AGP-UPPL alliance candidate Manab Deka. The Chief Minister arrived in Lakhimpur around 5:30 pm from Chabua after taking part in a mega public rally along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister lambasted the Congress for its betrayal to the people of the State.

"The Congress had been governing the country for 60 years. But the party did not show any cordial attitude to establish integration among the communities living in the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys, plains and hills. The party did not show even a minimum respect to preserve the memory of the prominent figures of those communities and to secure and safeguard their culture and language and traditional values. The party betrayed the people of the State. On the contrary, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has honoured each and every community of the State. All of you have got its benefit of it at present," Sonowal said.

He further asserted that BJP had kept all the promises made before with deep devotion and respect. He said that the party had worked with conviction for the welfare of all sections of people, irrespective of their caste and creed, religion and language.

Highlighting the developmental activities of his government towards the welfare of the tea tribe community, the Chief Minister said that the BJP government had paid due respect to the legendary figures of the tea tribe community, like Birsa Munda, Santosh Kumar Topno, Simon Sing Horo, Dayal Das Panika, Mangri Orang, including the noble figures of other communities of the State, by organizing various programmes and christening the government schemes after them in order to keep their memory alive. He added that the Congress had done nothing for the welfare of the tea tribe community but the BJP government had adopted a number of welfare policies for them and enhancement of the tea industry and the tea companies too. He slammed Rahul Gandhi, terming him as a 'liar' for declaring that the Congress would hike the daily wage of tea garden workers to Rs. 365 within six hours if the Congress formed government in the State.

"In this regard, Priyanka Gandhi is also staging drama. Congress cannot fulfill their five guarantees," Sonowal stated while appealing to the people of Lakhimpur LAC to make Manab Deka winner.

Manab Deka delivered the welcome address and appealed to the people to make him winner by a huge margin of votes. On the other hand, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah called upon the people of Lakhimpur not to cast vote in support of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Utpal Dutta.

"As an MLA for five terms, Utpal Dutta could not bring in developmental in Lakhimpur. BJP has no alliance with AGP in Lakhimpur," Pradan Baruah stated.
