LAKHIMPUR: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi became vocal against RSS and Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma while leading the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Lakhimpur district on Saturday.
“We started the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur, and will continue till Maharashtra. This yatra not only aims to unite every religion and caste in India but also give ‘nyay’. We have added ‘nyay’ to the name of this yatra because we feel that the BJP and RSS have done a lot of injustice - social, economic and political - to people of the nation.” Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a mega public rally at Gumtu Gate under Harmoti area of Lakhimpur district.
He further alleged that the BJP had patronized communal politics to divide the people of the nation during the last ten years.
The ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, initiated by All India Congress Committee under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, resumed its Assam leg on the third day in the State around 7:00 am on Saturday from Gogamukh of Dhemaji district proceeding towards Lakhimpur. Leading the march followed by several thousands of people, Rahul Gandhi then paid obeisance at Padumoni Aai Than, one of the noted Shakti Peeths of the Northeast Region, located at Boginadi of Lakhimpur district. As the entourage started with Gandhi’s bus in the front, the leader was greeted by bystanders along the road. This prompted him to get off at a couple of places, interact with the people and also walk a few metres with them. He also interacted with the party workers at Boginadi. Then the March arrived at Charaimuria near North Lakhimpur town. There Rahul Gandhi garlanded the statue of Veerangana Soti Sadhani and paid rich tribute to her. After that, the march forwarded towards Laluk through North Lakhimpur town.
On the way to Laluk, Rahul Gandhi, by garlanding the statue at Pahumara near Ranganadi bridge, also paid tribute to legendary Assamese general and folk hero Lachit Borphukan, who is known to have achieved a decisive victory over the Mughals in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671. After resuming the Yatra Rahul Gandhi then arrived at Nowboicha and paid tribute to the Birsa Munda, who paved the way for the empowerment of tribals.
As per the schedule, the Yatra took its morning break at Govindapur under Laluk area, where senior Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Jitendra Singh, Bhupen Borah and Debabrata Saikia addressed a press conference. Then the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resumed from Harmuti and entered Arunachal Pradesh from Assam.
