Congress stages dharna against irregularities in Karimganj Municipality Board

SILCHAR: As the schedule for the civic body poll advances, Karimganj district Congress seemed to gear up for a head-on battle as the Opposition party staged a dharna in front of the municipality office. Alleging huge scam during the erstwhile BJP Board, Congress on Tuesday demanded a thorough investigation. Congress alleged that a scam of Rs 55 lakh took place under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Massive irregularities were allegedly found in Project Jyoti, a Rs 28 lakh scheme for roadside electrification in the town. The 27 ward Karimganj Municipality board had 15 commissioners from the BJP. Last week Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy visited Karimganj where he assured that if any financial irregularities took place in the erstwhile BJP-led Board, proper investigation would definitely be Instituted.
