Congress stages protest against sky-rocketing prices of petro-products

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the nation, the Lakhimpur District Congress Committee (LDCC) on Friday initiated stir across Lakhimpur demanding check on the prices of petroleum and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).

LDCC, led by Pradip Gogoi, staged dharna at Eveready Petrol Pump in North Lakhimpur town while the Block Congress Committees under LDCC initiated protest programmes within their own jurisdictions. Taking part in the protest programme, LDCC president Pradip Gogoi and spokesman Prasanta Gogoi criticized the Union and State governments in strong terms alleging their comprehensive failure to check the hike in the prices of petro-products and essential commodities. On the other hand, the members of the political party initiated protest on the same issue across No. 112 Dhakuakhana Legislative Assembly Constituency.

"The prices of petrol and LPG have hiked unexpectedly across with the nation. Most of the families have to suffer a lot due to the sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities under the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. Yet the Union and State governments and the Supply Department of the State have paid no attention to control the price hike in petro-products to provide relief to the common people," stated Congress leader Padma Losan Doley, taking part in the protest programme initiated by Dhakuakhana Block Congress Committee at Bharat Petroleum Oil Depot located in Dhakuakhana town.

In connection, Padma Losan Doley severely criticized Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Congress activists shouted various slogans demanding control in the sky-rocketing prices of petro-products and slammed the Union and State governments, and supply department. Dhakuakhana Block Congress Committee president Tarun Chetia and former president Mukul Gogoi were among those who took part in the protest programme.

PALASBARI: Rekibuddin Ahmed, MLA of Chaygaon constituency, on Friday staged a dharna in front of Bharat Petrol Pump at Chaygaon. As per the directions of the All India Congress Committee, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and the Kamrup District Congress Committee called for protest against increase in the prices of essential food items as well as petrol and diesel. The protest was initiated by the Chaygaon Block Congress Committee while adhering to COVID protocol. Congress activists shouted slogans against the BJP government.

DEMOW: Under the patronage of Thowra Block Committee, a protest programme against price rise was staged by the activists of Thowra Block Congress, Thowra Yuba Congress, Thowra Mahila Congress and NSUl workers in Demow Petrol Depu on Friday. In the protest programme, the Congress workers shouted various slogans against the BJP government and demanded check in the price rise of petrol and diesel at the earliest.
