LAKHIMPUR: "The ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has no agenda for the development of the State. The only work the party has is to criticize the Congress. But the Congress has a mission and vision for the State. We will waive farm loans if our party comes to power in the State," stated Ripun Borah in Lakhimpur on Thursday.
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president made this statement while addressing a public rally organized by Lakhimpur District Congress Committee (LDCC) near Prashiddha Mandir premises located at Bochagaon in the district as a part of the 'Asom Bachao Ahak' campaign of the party. In his speech, Ripun Borah further asserted that the BJP, after gaining power in the State, abolished a total of 133 welfare schemes adapted and implemented by Congress for the poor people. He said that the Congress would re-implement those schemes if the party gained power in the upcoming assembly election.
"Under the mission and vision for women empowerment, our party will waive the loans taken by the women of the State. Moreover, we will establish four lakh Anganwadi centres under this mission by doubling what our previous government did. The job of mid-day meal cooks of the school will be regularized by giving them permanent appointment. Our government will set up separate police stations across the State and the eligible women of the State will be given employment by appointing them in a newly-introduced women police battalion," Borah said.
He further added that the Congress would also waive the electricity bill upto 120 units, fill up 1,00,000 vacant posts lying vacant in the various government department of the State since long time, fill up 70,000 Scheduled Caste backlog vacant posts and create new situation for the mitigation of unemployment problem. He reiterated that the Congress would not let the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 to be imposed in Assam. Terming the upcoming assembly election as the election between people of the State and the BJP, and not between Congress and BJP, Borah remarked that the people of the State would make the Congress winner.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, criticized the BJP-led government in the State and at the Centre in strong terms while attending the event, which was hosted by former LDCC president Dr. Joy Prakash Das. He said that the BJP could not keep its poll promises of hiking the daily wage of tea garden workers, constructing Express Highway in Assam, sealing the Indo-Bangla boarder, bringing the black money back to the nation from the overseas banks, mitigating unemployment problem and controlling price hike. He called upon the people to cast vote for the Congress in the upcoming assembly election for better governance.
