Donkamukam: Hundreds of activists of Indian National Congress (INC) on Tuesday held a ‘Janajagaran Yatra’ from Ghilani to Donkamukam town in West Karbi Anglong against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. The president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Ripun Bora attended as chief guest. He was also accompanied by Apurba Bhattacharya, APCC general secretary, and other Congress leaders.

Later, in the public meeting at Rongkhang Block Congress Committee Office (RBCC) at Donkamukam, Ripun Bora made a scathing attack on the BJP government at the Centre and the State. “The Congress will repeal the CAA when it comes to power in the State in 2021,” said Bora. “Nine Congress-ruled States rejected CAA because it is unconstitutional and anti-people,” the Rajya Sabha MP further said.

“The BJP rulers of Autonomous Councils think that Hills are exempted from the purview of CAA, but they don’t know that the Act will affect them also,” he added.

Bora slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the proposed move to sell BPCL, paper mills, Railway, BSNL and LIC to private companies due to huge debts. “This shows the failure of his administration,” he said. He also slammed State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for making many promises to the people of Karbi Anglong but not fulfilling them. “Jobs for 3rd grade and 4th grade in Diphu Medical College have been given to outsiders,” he said.

The programme was organized by West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (WKADC). Few BJP members led by Paul Hanse of Hamren MAC constituency joined the Congress.
