LAKHIMPUR: “Threat of imprisonment, disqualification as Lok Sabha MP cannot pacify the voice of Rahul Gandhi. Under the rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, democracy in India is under tremendous threat. The value of the Constitution is ignored,” Sanju Borah, the general secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) said in Lakhimpur. Sanju Borah said so at a press conference which was convened at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Friday to protest against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as Lok Sabha MP. Addressing the media persons, the APCC general secretary further said, “A drama was scripted and staged to protect the Prime Minister from answering a question raised by Rahul Gandhi. His question was- ‘Who invested a sum of Rs. 20,000 crore in Adani’s company?’ The question was not replied, but a drama was staged by the BJP-led government at the Centre against Rahul Gandhi who has been becoming vocal against the non-democratic policies of the same and in favour of the public.

He added that corrupt politicians are secured in BJP at present. “In next assembly election, public mandate will be in favour of Congress and Congress will form government in Assam under the leadership of APCC president Bhupen Borah,” the APCC general secretary claimed in the press conference wherein APCC secretary Jintu Hazarika, Lakhimpur district Congress Committee president Gagan Chandra Borah general secretary (administrative) Gangajyoti Tayegam, vice-president Baharul Islam, senior spokesman Prasanta Gogoi and other Congress leaders were present.

Notably, the Congress workers have continued protest across Lakhimpur district against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as Lok Sabha MP. On Friday, the Block Congress Committees staged protest across Lakhimpur in this regard. The North Lakhimpur Mandal Congress Committee also addressed another press conference at North Lakhimpur Press Club on the same issue on Friday.
