GOLAGHAT: The Golaghat Police and district administration have failed to bust the drug dens and drug mafias in the district.

Due to alleged negligence and ignorance of the district administration and police administration, illegal activities and drugs smuggling are on the rise in the district. Since the last three years, use of alcohol, drugs, gutkha and various illegal activities are increasing rapidly in Golaghat district. School and college students and youths are taking drugs and alcohol in public places openly. In this connection, the police department has allegedly not taken any stringent action. The conscious people of Golaghat district have approached the district administration and police many times and even staged various protests against the illegal drugs smuggling and illegal activities. But the authority concerned allegedly has not paid attention to the issue.

Notably, on June 9, a student Sanjib Goswami, resident of Chandmari under Golaghat Police Station, died due to use of drugs. Later, family members of Sanjib Goswami lodged a complaint against a drugs peddler Jojo alias Mrinal Gogoi and alleged that the drugs peddler had murdered the student. In this regard, several organizations of Golaghat town came out and protested near the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They strongly criticized the role of the police and district administration for failing to check drugs smuggling in Golaghat district.

On the other hand, Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti (CMSS) of Golaghat district committee staged a six hour sit-in near the Deputy Commissioner’s office against drug smuggling and demanded that drug dens in the district should be completely busted. The organization threatened to carry out massive protest unless immediate action was taken against these illegal activities.
