Guwahati: The construction of a government road in the Bhagewara Khulisara area in the Dholai constituency sparked tension again at the Assam-Mizoram border on Thursday.
The divers of the dumpers and JCBs that are operating at the construction site have alleged that about 150 people along with the Mizoram police have pelted stones at them. They further claimed that gunfire sounds were also heard during the incident.
"I was engaged in my work when two people came towards me and started to shoot a video in their mobile handset. Suddenly around 100 to 150 people started to pelt stones with a catapult and threatened us pointing bows and arrows. I also heard sounds of gunfire, however, managed to escape from the spot," said one of the drivers.
Another driver said that they were chased out using bows and arrows. "There were around 100 to 150 people in a group, they started to shoot video in their mobile handsets and also pointed bow and arrows at the people working at the site. They asked us to leave the spot and chased us out. There were several Mizo people in the group including some policemen," he said.
The Superintendent of Police of Cachar district, Ramandeep Kaur, along with his team of policemen including Additional Superintendent of Police of Cachar district, Partha Pratim Saikia, quickly hurried to the spot soon after the incident to take control of the situation.
As per reports, a patrolling force in the entire region has been deployed by the Cachar district administration.
