LAKHIMPUR: The construction work of the second floor of the North Lakhimpur Press Club (NLPC), one of the strong press clubs of North Assam, kick-started on Thursday. A traditional religious programme was organized on the occasion in the presence of the office bearers and members of the club.

Notably, North Lakhimpur Press Club has already been accorded administrative permission to construct its building up to the fourth floor. Meanwhile, though the construction of the ground floor and the first floor of the building have been almost completed, the second, third and fourth floors are yet to be constructed.

The third floor of the press club building will be constructed with the investment of a package of Rs. 25 lakh allotted by former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal from the Chief Minister's Untied Fund during the last days of the tenure of his government after consecutive prayers and petitions. Thereafter, NLPC constituted a Construction Committee with PWD engineer Ranadhiranjan Pal as president and NLPC secretary Karuna Krishna Nath as secretary and initiated steps to start the construction works.
