HOWRAGHAT: On the eve of the Union Home Minister's scheduled visit to the autonomous district of Karbi Anglong and the government likely to sign MoS with some local militant groups, the banner organization of two Kuki groups of the district - the People Democratic Alliance of Kukigam (PDAK – which is also in talks with the government for solution and settlement of their core demand for Kuki Regional Council, convened a people's consultative Meeting of the Kukis on Wednesday in the KNA office at Manja.

The meeting was attended by all Kuki Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) like the Kuki National Assembly, Kuki Students' Organization, Kuki Gaonbura Association/KCS/KHRF/KWA, besides many respectable seniors of the Kuki community. The meeting was an obvious attempt to hammer out the future course of action as the government has also invited them to be part of the proposed MoS signing ceremony.

The prime unanimous resolution of the meeting was the decision not to be part of the MoS if the legitimate core demand of the Kukis for Regional Council, persistently demanded for more than three decades, is not there in the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS). They agreed not to sign on anything less than regional council.

The Kuki Civil Society Organizations also welcomed the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah for an amicable solution of the long-pending demands raised by different communities living in Karbi Anglong. They specifically appealed to the Union and State governments for the early solution of the Kuki problems raised by the Kuki National Assembly (KNA) and the PDAK (an umbrella organization of KRA and UKDA) who is under Suspension of Operation (SoO) and had laid down arms before the government in the year 2012.
