Cops, traders and social organizations support lockdown-hit needy people in Barpeta

PATHSALA: Various organizations, individuals, police personnel and political parties have come out to help the poor and needy people with food and essential commodities in various parts of Bajali in Barpeta district amidst the lockdown. On Thursday, BJP State executive member Phani Pathak along with other party workers distributed food to 100 people who are financially weak and in urgent need of food. Pathak aims to distribute food to more than 1,000 needy people in the Patacharkuchi constituency.

Santanu Kumar Das, a businessman of Pathsala town, distributed food items to 500 poor people in Pathsala. Meanwhile, The Bajali subdivision police administration also continues to distribute food items among the needy people. Several individuals and organizations in Bajali area have also contributed to the Assam Arogya Nidhi (AAN) to fight COVID-19, besides distributing food stuff among the poor people who have suffered a lot due to the lockdown.

Patacharkuchi Development Committee, Sibadham Parichalana Samiti and Munindra Narayan Goswami, an octogenarian social worker and literary pensioner, donated Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively recently to ANN through Dr Sangita Sarma, Circle Officer of Bajali Revenue Circle. The Durga Puja Parichalana Samiti also contributed Rs 20,000 towards the Assam Arogya Nidhi on Wednesday.

Apurba Chakrabarty, the block development officer (BDO) of Bajali Development Block, has also shown response to the call of State Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take care of the poor. He distributed food packets to 10 families under his development block. Meanwhile, Girija Sarma, a retired teacher of Bhaluki village, also distributed food items among the families of Rajen Kalita, Pradip Kalita, Dinesh Kalita, Pranita Kakati and Rina Devi in his village. Jagadhatri Village Organization also donated Rs 5,000 towards the Assam Arogya Nidhi. Besides, Chakradhar Thakuria, an employee at Patacharkuchi Sub-Registrar office, Jiten Das, a teacher, and Gobinda Sarma, an insurance agent, also distributed essential commodities among several villagers.
