GUWAHATI: After massive criticism, the state Election Commission has issued notification postponing the upcoming Bodo territorial Council (BTC) polls scheduled to be held on April 4. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar said that the BTC elections has been postponed for an indefinite period due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. He also said that new dates for the polls will be announced later. However, the withdrawal of the nomination papers will continue till March 21, Kumar added. He also said, “We will announce a new date for the BTC polls on time.” The announcement comes after the Election Body was slammed for not postponing the BTC polls even after the State Health Department had issued several warnings against mass gatherings.
