LAKHIMPUR: The community contagion of COVID-19 during the second wave of the pandemic continues at some places in Lakhimpur district. In the district, a total of 172 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) Test conducted in the last two days. Out of them, 77 cases were detected on Wednesday while rest 95 cases alone were detected on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the District Health Department conducted the RAT on 1,162 persons in eight COVID-19 Test Centres set up across the district. Out of them, the detected cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban (5), Dhalpur (8), Bihpuriya (16), Naoboicha (17), Boginadi (8), Ghilamora (5), Dhakuakhana (1) and North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital Respiratory Clinic (17). All these patients have been put to home isolation.

On the other hand, RAT was conducted on Thursday upon altogether 1,354 people at the eight COVID-19 Test Centres of the district. Out of them, 95 people tested positive for coronavirus infection. These fresh cases were detected at North Lakhimpur urban (1) Dhalpur (16), Bihpuriya (13), Naoboicha (4), Boginadi (26), Ghilamora (3), Dhakuakhana (7) and North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital Respiratory Clinic (24). On the same day, one patient was detected for coronavirus infection as per Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) Test. Of them, six patients have been admitted in the isolation wards of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) while rest 89 patients have been put to home quarantine.

Notably, two persons of the district succumbed to COVID-19 on Tuesday and Wednesday. One of them has been identified as Hem Chandra Gohain (56) of Lilibari, near 13th APBN. He died in Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh on Tuesday. The other deceased person has been identified as Powal Nath (85), a resident of Kharkati village under Panigaon Police Station of North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle. He breathed his last on Wednesday at his home.

On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur district, Khageswar Pegu declared the Kharkati village as containment zone on Thursday in order to arrest the spread of the virus and to break the chain of the contagion. In that village, a total of 10 COVID-19 positive patients were detected till Wednesday.

With the fresh patients, who were detected on Wednesday and Thursday, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district has hiked to 8,914 since April 4 of the last year. Out of them, 8,284 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation while there are 561 active cases in the district at present. Till day a total of 67 persons of the district succumbed to COVID-19. Of them, 7 persons passed away during the second wave of the pandemic in the district.
