COVID-19 cases rise in Cachar; 61 patients test positive in the last 24 hours

SILCHAR: Hovering between yellow and green zone and finally to free zone, there was ray of hope both among the people and the administration of Cachar. But, it was a short lived affair. Came lock down, better to say, total and then partial shutdown and post dusk to dawn curfew that still continues. Crowding in the rural haats and bazaars, weekly and biweekly, forced the administration to clamp their shutdown from evening. Nothing could control the people. No guidelines to avoid crowding at one place are followed. Social distance is thrown to the fore wind. In some cases, masks are also seen missing.

The observation of saner sections of civil society is that unless people in general behave with sense and sensibility, nothing can check or contain the spread of COVID-19 cases which as of now is taking the shape a viral. This is clear from the statement of Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice-Principal, Silchar Medical College and Hospital, at a press-briefing held at the Circuit House this evening here. Along with him was Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert. According to Dr Gupta, till now, 4630 patients have been tested, of them 1129 tested COVID-19 positive. During the last 24 hours, 61 patients tested positive, 13 new cases admitted and 6 discharged from Silchar Medical College and Hospital. There has been 2 casualty.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta added to say three patients are admitted in ICU. The condition of one of them, Nikhil Chandra Das (57) is critical. Condition of GRP personnel Krishna Mohan Sinha and Chiranjiv Das is stable. Apart from that a junior doctor of SMCH has also tested positive without any travel history. Sushmita Dev, former MP and President All India Mahila Congress, who tested positive and admitted in VIP cabin a week back, is recovering well. Her Covid test is yet to be done. Among the 44 cases which tested COVID positive on Monday are police, BSF and Army jawans and for security reasons as Suman Choudhury, DME, said their list cant be furnished.
