BARPETA: One COVID positive patient named Janardan Das (70) of Barpeta no. 2 Galiahati died at the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, Barpeta on Saturday morning. He was admitted here at FAAMCH, Barpeta on April 25.

On Saturday, the positive cases in the district (including some parts of Bajali) rose to 1,113. Total 112 cases were detected on Saturday. The total number of active cases is 902. Total 196 patients have been discharged after recovery and five have shifted to Guwahati. Till now 10 people in the district have died of COVID-19.

HAILAKANDI: COVID-19 claimed its first victim in the second wave in South Assam's Hailakandi district, stated a press release.

Pappu Nath, a 26-year old youth from Katlicherra, was admitted on April 22 with alleged history of ingestion of unknown substance. He was found COVID positive under RAT on admission. The patient had aspiration pneumonitis and had sepsis with AKI and required vasopressors. His condition deteriorated with passage of time and he expired on Friday at around 5.15 pm.

Meanwhile, 23 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,524. With these new cases, the district has altogether 103 active COVID-19 cases while 3,397 patients have been discharged. Total 24 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital, two at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, 74 kept under home isolation and three in other districts.

Altogether 1,80,,437 samples for COVID-19 have been tested so far, including 1,230 samples taken in the last 24 hours. Results of 498 samples are awaited from SMC&H. Health authorities here revealed that contact tracing of 684 persons was carried out in the last one month and 32 were found positive, including six on Saturday.

TEZPUR: One more person passed away due to COVID-19 and altogether 68 people were found positive in Sonitpur district on Saturday, thereby increasing the total number of active cases in the district was 519 and taking the total caseload in the district to 9,347 since May of last year till Saturday. These cases were reported from various parts of the district.

Official sources said that COVID positive Bhupendra Saharia (70) of Gharporachuburi under Tezpur Sadar Police station died at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.

The total number of COVID deaths in the district increased to 31 since May of last year till Saturday.

LAKHIMPUR: A total of 45 people were infected with COVID-19 afresh in Lakhimpur on Saturday. They were detected while conducting Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Notably, the District Health Department conducted the RAT upon 1,295 persons at eight COVID-19 test centres across the district.

The fresh cases were reported from North Lakhimpur urban (1), Dhalpur (7), Bihpuriya (8), Naoboicha (7), Boginadi (9), Ghilamora (2), Dhakuakhana (1) and North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital Respiratory Clinic (11).

With these newly-detected patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 patients of the district has hiked to 8,557 since April 4 of the last year. Out of them, 8,107 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while there are 386 active cases at present. On Saturday, 5 recovered parents were discharged from institutional isolation while 21 were discharged from home isolation.

DHEKIAJULI: Along with the rest of the country, COVID positive cases are increasing in Dhekiajuli Revenue Circle area.

On Saturday, four COVID positive cases were detected in different PHCs of Dhekiajuli Revenue Circle area. Out of these four positives case, one was detected in Dhekiajuli PHC, one in Batasipur NPHC, one in Borsola NPHC and one was detected in Dhekiajuli Community Health Centre. People have now started wearing masks and using sanitizer in public places in Dhekiajuli.
