COVID-19 claims 3 more lives in Lakhimpur, 105 fresh cases detected

LAKHIMPUR: COVID-19 claimed three lives in Lakhimpur in the last two days. One of them has been identified as Minati Devi (45), resident of CD Road under North Lakhimpur town. She breathed his last on Sunday at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh.

On the other hand, one of the two persons who succumbed to COVID-19 on Monday, has been identified as Birsa Gowala (70), resident of Padumoni village under Boginadi Block Primary Health Centre (BPHC) area. The coronavirus infected person, who stayed alone, was found dead at home on Monday morning. Notably, the village was declared as micro containment zone three days back due to detection of 9 COVID-19 patients. With these three casualties, a total of 20 people succumbed to COVID-19 in the district during the second wave of contagion from April 1 of the current year.

The other person has been identified as Ram Gosai (42), resident of Silonibari Tea Estate under Naoboicha BPHC. He died in the COVID-19 ward of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH). He was admitted at the hospital around 8 am on Monday. This tea estate was also declared as micro containment zone on Sunday due to the detection of 22 COVID-19 cases on Saturday.

On the other hand, a total of 106 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected in Lakhimpur district on Monday. Out of them, 105 cases were detected as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted across the district while one case was found to be positive for COVID-19 as per Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) Test. On Monday, the District Health Department conducted the RAT upon 1,582 people across the district. The detected cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital (5), Dhalpur BPHC (14), Bihpuriya BPHC (6), Naoboicha BPHC (14), Boginadi BPHC (37), Ghilamora BPHC (11), Dhakuakhana BPHC (5) and Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (13). Two of these patients have been put to institutional isolation and rest 103 patients are under home quarantine.

With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district has surged to 9,946 since April 4 of the last year. Out of them, 9,057 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while there are 810 active cases in the district at present. On Monday, 14 recovered patients were discharged from institutional isolation while 70 recovered patients were discharged from home isolation.
