LAKHIMPUR: As the days roll on, the COVID-19 pandemic scenario has been turning grim in Lakhimpur district with the increasing number of infected people.

Within this week, a good number of people in the district have come under the contagion of the pandemic virus.

For example, a total of 227 people were detected positive on August 12 while 30 positive cases were found positive on August 13. Similarly, 126 cases were detected on August 14 while 117 cases were reported positive on August 15. On the other hand, 74 cases were detected on August 16. During the last days, a total of 182 inmates of Lakhimpur Jail were found positive for coronavirus infection through Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Notably, a total of five persons in the district already lost their life due to the infection of the pandemic till day.

On Monday, a total of 98 more COVID-19 patients were detected in the district till the time of filing this report. Of them, 11 cases were detected positive as per real time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (rRT-PCR) Test while rest 59 cases were detected through RAT. On the 15 employees of the Deputy Commissioner's office, including an Assistant Commissioner, were detected positive for COVID-19 through RAT. Notably, one Additional Deputy Commissioner of the district was found positive on August 13. With these patients, the total number of COVID-19 cases has spiked to 1866. Of them, 1,035 cases have been discharged and 839 are active cases.
