TINSUKIA: After 32 people were picked up for suspected COVID-19 infection from different areas of Sadiya subdivision in Tinsukia district on Saturday evening, a fear psychosis prevails in entire Tinsukia district and Sadiya in particular.
While 31 persons hailed from Santipur of Assam-Arunachal border, Masjid Patty of Chapakhowa, Haripur and Mugolpur under Sadiya subdivision, the other was from Dholla. All the persons were brought to Tinsukia GNB Civil Hospital in special 108 ambulances under heavy security cover and kept in quarantine wards.
According to Bhaskar Jyoti Borah, DIPR i/c Tinsukia, sample collection from all the suspected patients were in progress till filing of this report and these would be sent to ICMR Lahowal (Dibrugarh) for COVID-19 analysis on Monday. These people came in contact with a COVID+ infected person of Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit district with whom they reportedly conducted and attended several religious congregations in different parts in Assam, including mosques in Tinsukia and Nalbari.
While the people of Tinsukia district were worried about mass scale entry into rural areas and tea gardens from different parts of India in the wake of country-wide lockdown, the villagers were conscious enough to block the entry of outsiders into the villages but they never perceived the threat in the aftermath of the Nizamuddin episode. This development has opened up a new challenge for Sadiya and Tinsukia police, district administration and health officials.
