Tezpur: Authorities at Assam's Tezpur University has asked students to vacate their hostels due to the rising number of COVID cases inside the campus.
D Deka, the Dean of Students Welfare Department has ordered that all the students have to vacate their hostel rooms by April 23 except post-graduate and under-graduate final-year students, PhD scholars, and International students.
The final year students of under-graduate and post-graduate classes have been allowed to stay in their hostels till April 29.
"Final year PG/UG students can stay inside the campus till 29th April 2021 with all COVID-19 protocol as notified earlier. They have to complete their research/laboratory works by that time and shall vacate their occupied rooms with bag and baggage by 30th April 2021," Deka said.
The order added that the students should either vacate their rooms completely or keep their belongings in some safe area inside the hostel as the University administration will not take any responsibility for any loss. The hostelers have been asked to deposit their room keys to the caretaker or security personnel of the hostel before leaving.
A notification issued by the University has stated that the examination schedule will be reconsidered due to the increasing number of COVID cases and the Controller of the Examination will soon issue a notification in this regard.
The order has also stated that PhD scholars and international students would be allowed to stay on till further notice.
At least 10 students of the University have tested positive for COVID.
