COVID ward cleaners stage protest demanding monthly remuneration in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, people who have been engaged for cleaning the COVID ward in Golaghat COVID-19 hospital staged protest on Friday in front of the hospital gate demanding their monthly remuneration.

Altogether 12 employees of the Golaghat COVID-19 hospital staged protest leaving their duties. The employees alleged that three months had passed but they had not received any salary. Further, they alleged that they had to work for 24 hours in the COVID ward but the department concerned was not looking after their interest.

After the coronavirus outbreak in Golaghat district, the health department appointed some youths in the post of cleaners with the assurance of giving them permanent appointment. But three months have passed and they are yet to get their appointment letters. The employees have demanded immediate payment of salary and appointment letters. Unless their demands are fulfilled, they threatened to stage more protests.
