BONGAIGAON: At the call of CPI (M) Assam State committee protests were staged in different places of Bongaigaon-Chirang by CPI (M) Bongaigaon district committee on Wednesday while maintaining COVID protocol.

Protests were staged at Bijni, Bongaigaon and Manikpur against continuous price rise of petroleum products and essential commodities. Several noted persons, including Parimal Chakraborty, district secretary, were present in these protests. Addressing the gathering, Parimal Chakraborty said that though price of crude oil had decreased in the international market, in India it was increasing day after day.

"This is because the government has no control over the oil companies. We demand that the government should fix the rate and stop petrol and diesel price hike. Because of fuel price hike, transportation cost has increased and hence the prices of essential commodities have also increased. We demand the government to take concrete steps to control this price hike," he said.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: The Biswanath District Committee of the Communist Party of India (M) protested against the hike in petrol and diesel prices.

The party also observed a two-hour long sit-in to demand reduction of petrol and diesel prices. The party said that growing contagion of COVID-19 and the lockdown announced by the Central Government was a threat to the livelihood of the people. The party later submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath district demanding steps to control the price hike of petrol, diesel and essential commodities.
