TEZPUR: A series of successful raids were conducted against drugs, illegal gambling, cattle smuggling, fake gold and illicit liquor at different parts of the Sonitpur district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Sonitpur police under the supervision of Sushanta Biswa Sarma, Superintendent of Police and Additional SP, (Headquarters) Madhurima Das conducted an operation. The operation team was led by OC, Tezpur Sadar Police Station, Mintu Boro, SI, Tarun Kurmi. They searched the premises of one Imrajul Islam (23), resident of Nizamiabasti village under Tezpur PS and recovered 5 packets of soap boxes in plastic packets containing 66 grams of suspected Heroin.
Another raid was conducted by Sonitpur police which was led by SI Simanta Pathak, IC Borghat OP under Tezpur PS. They intercepted a car bearing Registration number AS 04 N 9029 over Kaliabhomura bridge and 4 stolen cattle were recovered and two persons were apprehended. They have been identified as Ashibul Hussain (18), resident of Village Barma Panchali under khaoimari PS and Majidul Hoque (18), resident of Barma Sonari Bali Village under Samuguri PS in Nagaon district. In yet another incident of fake gold, based on secret input, Sonitpur police arrested three persons red handed with two fake gold biscuits at Napam area under Borghat OP in Tezpur PS. They have been identified as Nabed Ali, Sahid Ali resident of Dikraijan village and Mojibur Rahman resident of Samdhara village under Tezpur Sadar Police Station.
Talking to The Sentinel, Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquaters) Madhurima Das informed that drugs, ganja and heroin worth Rs 3 crore were seized in the district this year.
Sonitpur police has seized 310 grams of heroin, 435 kilogram of ganja and 100 kilogram of opium during the period worth Rs 3 crore. Madhurima further added that a total of 110 cases have been registered and 166 people have been arrested in Sonitpur district till December 30, 2022. She also said that a total of 11 cases of heroin were registered, while 12 cases of marijuana and one case of opium were registered. In December this year, 5,17 kg of ganja worth Rs 2,55,850 and 85.59 grams of heroin worth Rs 17,01,180 were seized, Madhurima added.
