Crime Against Girl Child on 'Rapid Rise' in Assam, Married Man Rapes Minor in Silapathar

GUWAHATI: It seems there is no respite in crimes against women and girl children in the state as another shocking incident have come to light where a 12-year old minor girl was raped by a married person.

According to reports, a 36-year-old married man allegedly raped a minor girl in Silapathar, Dhemaji in Assam on Saturday. The accused has been identified as one Rajiv Medak (36), son of late Debanada Medak.

The report further said that, the accused, Medak had entered the house of a neighbour on some pretext and raped the minor while taking advantage of the fact that no one was present in the house when the crime had been committed.

The police said that the minor was alone in the home when the barbaric incident took place. The accused fled the scene after committing the crime leaving the injured and bleeding girl alone in her house.

Meanwhile, Dhemaji Police have registered a case vide case number 374/21 at the Silapathar Police Station based on a complaint filed by the victim's father. The angry local people who were shocked by this incident demanded immediate arrest and capital punishment of the culprit so that justice could be served fast-track for the bereaved family of the minor girl.

It can be noted that several such horrific crimes against women have been reported from time to time in Assam in the last few days. In Morigaon, a 9-year old girl has been raped and murdered by an aged person. The accused already confessed his crime. He received a bullet injury when he tried to flee from police custody while he was taken to the crime scene.

Earlier on July 27, another heinous crime surfaced where a 43-year-old merciless man allegedly raped a 17-year-old autistic minor girl in Assam's Karimganj district. The accused, who is a resident of Badarpur town, has also been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 and some other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). "The survivor is going through a regular medical test and after that, it will be established whether she was raped. But the family members are alleging that she was sexually assaulted. Our officials have taken her statement," said Dipak Saikia, an officer in charge of Badarpur police station.

Just two days earlier to this incident, on July 25, a 12-year-old minor has been gang-raped in Uloni of Khetri in Kamrup (M) According to reports, the 12-year-old is believed to be a resident of Tamholong was raped by 4 notorious miscreants at Khetri. Further, the Khetri police have arrested the four rapists involved in the case. The four rapists are identified as Bakul Baishya of Maloibari, Bikash Sarkar of Durung, Chiranjit Sarkar of Durung and Keshab Biswas of Nagaon, Kamrup.
