KOKRAJHAR: A team of 25 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cyclists led by Sector Officer KR Dhiman, who had started their journey from Assam's Jorhat district on August 31 to take part in the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on the occasion of 75th anniversary of India's Independence in New Delhi, reached Chirang district via Guwahati on Monday.
At the event of arriving at 156 Bn CRPF headquarters at Kukurmari in Chirang district, they were received with great enthusiasm by Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Minister of Handloom and Textile, Sericulture, Soil Conservation and Bodoland Welfare Department and Guardian Minister of the district, in the presence of other dignitaries and school students.
On the occasion, Ravi Munda, CO of the 156 Bn of CRPF, Kukurmari and Jaidev Kesari, DIG of CRPF, Bongaigaon, delivered welcome address and keynote address respectively. They gave a detailed explanation of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the purpose of organizing cycle rally by them, including the proposed routes to be traveled by their team to reach the final distinction.
In his speech, Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma said, "Our North Eastern Region is no more disturbed area now as the people have understood peace is required for all round development in a particular area." He also stressed on the importance of eliminating superstition, drugs and trafficking of children and women from the society.
The next of kins of Saheed Sadan Basumatary, Saheed PN Marak and Saheed R. Baruah were honored and felicitated during the programme. Sidli MLA Jayanta Basumatary, Chirang Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah, Jaidev Kesari, DIG of CRPF, Bongaigaon, Chirang Superintendent of Police Pranjit Borah, Ravi Munda, CO of 156 Bn of CRPF, Kukurmari, DB Sonar, CO of 15 Bn SSB, Kajalgaon, other officers of CRPF were also present on the occasion.
