NAGAON: According to police, a cyber criminal who allegedly obtained loans totaling about Rs 22 lakh from two private financial institutions in the names of various people was detained in the Morigaon region of Assam.
169 SIM cards, 11 PAN cards, and other potentially incriminating papers were taken from him by the Assam Police.
On the basis of confidential information, a police squad from the Morigaon district allegedly carried out an operation at Morimusalman village on Tuesday night and apprehended the cybercriminal.
Superintendent of Police of Morigaon district, Samiran Baishya on Wednesday said, “We have recovered 169 SIM cards, 11 PAN cards, 5 Aadhaar cards, 7 bank account passbooks, one stamp and seal of a doctor, several user ids, passwords and other incriminating documents in possession from him.”
Inamul Hoque had taken loans totaling almost Rs 22 lakh from two private financial institutions under the names of other people, it was discovered during the investigation.
“During the investigation, we found that Inamul Hoque had taken loans of around Rs 22 lakh from two private financial companies in the name of different persons. He had taken the loan amount from financial companies by using fake Aadhaar and PAN cards. He used his own photo and made 11 PAN and Aadhaar cards in the name of different persons,” said Samiran Baishya.
“Our operation against the cybercriminals is on. We will nab other persons who are also involved in this,” Samiran Baishya said.
“So far, we have arrested 55 cyber criminals in the district,” the police officer said.
Inamul Hoque, a native of the Moirabari region, had been staying at a friend's residence for the previous 20 to 25 days, according to the police officer.
In December of last year, two feared cybercriminals were captured by the Morigaon district police, and a sizable quantity of offensive products were recovered from their possession.
The two people who were apprehended have been named as Abdul Ajiz and Abdul Mazit. They were apprehended during a mission based on intelligence.
During the search, police discovered a chequebook, 262 SIM cards, 31 ATM cards, 9 pancards, and 8 voter ID cards. The cops also took a printer, five cell phones, two computers, and a WiFi equipment from their possession.
