MANGALDAI: Darrang Police arrested seven cadres of the outlawed outfit ULFA (I) from various locations of Darrang and Udalguri district recently. This arrest also included one pro-talk ULFA member.

The arrested persons are Khanindra Kalita (29), son of Hareswar Kalita, Hiren Kalita (35), son of Dandi Ram Kalita, both of village Kamargaon, Dharmendra Deka (26), son of Harendra Deka of village Naptapara (all under Sipajhar Police Station in Darrang district,) Bolen Deka (38), son of Bhuban Deka of village Borongabari and Dhruba Jyoti Baishya (37), son of Lakkhi Ram Baishya of village Amlaiguri under Harisinga Police Station in Udalguri district, Ashim Adhikari alias Raj (27), son of satish Chandra Adhikari of village Singra under Boko Police Station in Kamrup (rural) district and pro-talk ULFA member Prasanna Saikia alias Prasenjit Chaliha (58), son of Rongdhar Saikia of village Kabikara under Mangaldai Police Station in Darrang district.

Addressing a press meet on Thursday evening, Superintendent of Police of Darrang, Amrit Bhuyan said that the Darrang Police on the basis of an input regarding the foiled attempts of a group of ULFA (I) cadres to recruit new members into the banned outfit, busted the group of the banned outfit and arrested all the seven members. Some objectionable articles, including ULFA letterheads, have also been seized from their possession.

One teenager Mofidul Islam (19), son of Hariz Ali of village Burhakhat under Sipajhar Police Station, who had fled from Dimapur on his journey in reaching an ULFA(I) camp, narrated the circumstances under which he initially decided to join the banned organization at the behest of some other ULFA linkman. Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), Ujjwal Pratim Barua supervised the successful operation conducted by Darrang Police. In this regard, a case vide Sipajhar Police Station case no.14/2021 under section 120(B)/121/121(A)/34 IPC read with section 10/13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been registered.
