Darrang Police seizes 52 kg of contraband ganja, two smugglers arrested

MANGALDAI: The Darrang Police, acting on a tip-off, seized 52 kg of contraband ganja and arrested two smugglers.

Following information received at around 2 am about a Maruti Wagon R car loaded with the ganja coming from Mazbat area in Udalguri district, Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan assigned a team of Mangaldai Police Station led by Officer in-charge Inspector Niranjan Barua.

Police laid a check at Bhebarghat of Mangaldai town on NH-15 at 4 am. The police were successful in intercepting the speeding car bearing registration number AS 12 S 4483 and recovered the ganja. Two smugglers, Pranip Kachary (38) son of Moti Kachary of village Kalibari near Rowta Charali, and Rohini Mishra (31), son of Ramani Mishra of village Bajnajhar near Rowta Charali, both under Rowta Police Station in Udalguri district, have been arrested in connection with Mangaldai Police Station case number 638/19 u/s 22(c) of NDPS Act.
