DHUBRI: Pinki Basfor, daughter of a safai karmachari, Jai Prakash Basfor of Gauripur town of Dhubri district, did a brilliant result in Higher Secondary (Science) examinations, result of which was declared last month.

She secured 82.5% in the examination and wants to continue her study to become a doctor.

Media for the first few days was busy doing stories on two toppers (7th and 10th) from Dhubri district, but when it came to know about Pinki 's brilliant result despite poor financial condition, made a beeline at her residence in Chowranghi More of Gauripur town of Dhubri district.

A team of reporters from Dhubri Journalists' Association (Dhubri Press Club) led by secretary of the association, Rajib Sarma visited her house and felicitated her.

Pinki while talking to the reporters told that it was very hard for her to come out with this result but her father stood by her and she encouraged by it, did hard work with perseverance which ultimately paid.

"Now my only goal is to become doctor and serve the people with all my sincerity and dedication. I know that a huge amount of money is required for studying, but I am keeping my dream and hope alive to pursue my future course of study", Pinki Basfor said.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Dhubri Journalists' Association, Rajib Sarma, on behalf of the association appealed in the social media to help Pinki Basfor to pursue her studies, and in response to his appeal, General Secretary of Dhubri district unit of BJP, Bhagirath Ojha visited Pinki's house and handed her an amount Rs 5,000 with an assurance that she would be given same amount of money monthly for three years for her educational expenditure.

When contacted by The Sentinel, Ojha said that it was his minimum contribution to her and if his financial condition permits, he could increase the amount till she completes MBBS.

"We need to support the brilliant students from this community, after all Mahatma Gandhi renamed the community as Harijan only to abolish untouchability and bring the community to the forefront of the society," Ojha said.
