DHEKIAJULI: The death anniversary of Assam's 15th century Vaishnavite saint-scholar and socio-religious reformer Saint Srimanta Sankardev was observed with reverence across the Dhekiajuli subdivision on Thursday.

Hundreds of devotees and followers of the saint observed the day in a religious way. Naam and kirtanas were held in the naamghars and the xatras of Shankar Mandir Naamghar, Balisiha Naamghar, Sirajuli Xatra, Panbarigaon Naamghar and others xatras and naamghars of Dhekiajuli subdivision.

Social worker and AGP leader Ratul Nath offered tribute to the great saint in the morning. Ratul Nath on the occasion of the death anniversary of Mahapurush Sankardev, said that celebration of the great saint's death anniversary would inspire all sections of people to dedicate themselves to practice his ideals and spread his good work far and wide. "This will also strengthen the traditional bond of unity among the people of our diverse society," he said.

The devotees chanted verses to the beats of khol and bhur-taal in praise of the saint in different xatras and naamghars located at Dhekiajuli.
