PATHSALA: Sensation prevailed in Bajali after two youths lost their lives. While one youth was allegedly killed by an angry mob, the other succumbed to serious injuries in an accident.

The deceased have been identified as 26-year-old Dhrubajyoti Choudhury of Kumarpara village and 43-year-old Bipul Das from Gabidapur in Bajali.

As per report, the incident occurred on January 16 when Bipul Das was walking on the street. He was allegedly hit by Dhrubajyoti's bike while he was returning home in the dense fog at night at around 9.30 pm to 10 pm in the Gabidapur area. Das was admitted to a hospital in Guwahati immediately where he succumbed to serious injuries on January 19.

Dhrubajyoti Choudhury, on the other hand, was beaten up by an angry mob. Later, he was also taken to another hospital in Guwahati where he succumbed to serious injuries on his head, stomach and private parts, family members said. The family members of Dhrubajyoti Choudhury have lodged an FIR at Patacharkuchi police station alleging that he was murdered. Now they want justice for him and have appealed to the Bajali police administration to find out the culprits and punish them as per law. Following the incident, one person was arrested by Patacharkuchi police and further investigation is going on, police said. Bipul Das was working with the Guwahati-based bio-diversity conservation organization Aaranyak. He had been working with Aaranyak since 2006 and was involved in various conservation projects and programmes undertaken by Aaranyak across Northeast India. He has contributed immensely in Aaranyak's efforts towards empowerment of communities living on the fringe of biodiversity-rich as well as protected landscapes in the region.

On the other hand, Dhrubajyoti Choudhury was the only son of the family. He completed his B.Sc degree from Bajali College. Recently he had started a business venture. Meanwhile, local people have demanded a proper investigation into the case.
