DOOMDOOMA: As part of the ongoing awareness programme for the ensuing G-20/Y-20 Summit, Tinsukia district administration in collaboration with Doomdooma College organized a district level inter college debate and quiz competition at Doomdooma College on Saturday.
The event was formally inaugurated by Doomdooma MLA Rupesh Gowala. In his inaugural speech MLA Gowala said that it was a proud moment for India to take the presidency of G-20 nations.
Earlier, the newly appointed Principal of Doomdooma College Dr. Kamleshwar Kalita delivered the welcome address. The inaugural session was also attended by the Principal, Ledo College Dr. Kripa Prasad Upadhyaya and the Principal, Bir Raghav Moran Government Model College, Doomdooma Dr. Amorjit Saikia. The Vice Principal of Doomdooma College Dr. Champa Rao Mohan also attended the inaugural session. The co-ordinator of the IQAC of Doomdooma College Dr. Pranjit Saikia offered the vote of thanks.
The topic of the debate of the competition was 'Growing Population in G-20 Nations is not threat for its Development'. The Principal of Ledo College Dr. Kripa Prasad Upadhyaya was the speaker of the debate in which 18 students from nine colleges across Tinsukia district participated. Bagmita Das of Tinsukia College, Samir Rimal of Margherita College and Dipbisan Sonowal of Doomdooma College secured the first, second and third prizes respectively in the debate competition which was judged by former Vice-Principal of Doomdooma College Birendra Hazarika, Assistant professor of Bir Raghav Moran Government Model College, Doomdooma Akshya Jyoti Mahanta and senior journalist Abhijit Khataniar.
In the quiz competition, eleven teams from eleven colleges of Tinsukia district participated which was conducted by Ranendra Khound , assistant professor of Political Science, D. D. R. College, Chabua as Quiz Master. Margherita College, Tinsukia College, and Women's College, Tinsukia secured first, second and third prize respectively.
In the veledictory session, prizes were distributed among the winners by the Prncipal Dr. Kamaleshwar Kalita, and Ranendra Khound, Akhsya Jyoti Mahanta, Abhijit Khataniar, and assistant professor of Hindi department of Doomdooma College Hiran Baishya Dutta. The programme was moderated by Monika Pegu, assistant professor of English, Doomdooma College.
