TINSUKIA: The Assam Gas Company Limited's (AGCL) arbitrary decision to hike tariff for domestic pipeline gas has been resented by the consumers in Tinsukia.

The AGCL allegedly increased the charges from the month of March without any public notice. It hiked charges both in respect of cost per SCUM (unit) as well as correction factor (CF).

According to information, the AGCL had fixed Rs 16.17 (inclusive of cost and distribution charge) and VAT @14.50 with monthly minimum consumption of 15 SCUM which amounted to Rs 277 with CF of 1.00. But all of a sudden, the AGCL hiked the total charges to Rs 18.07 per SCUM with enhancement of CF charges to 1.15 that led to increase of Rs 36.14. Thus the consumers had to cough up two additional SCUM, besides minimum consumption of 15 SCUM. While the domestic consumers were surprised to see their recent invoices as these had gone unnoticed over the past few months due to climatic changes and other factors when the consumption is relatively higher, they have urged upon the company as well as the government to be rational with the domestic consumers.
