LAKHIMPUR: The Ex-BLT Welfare Society has demanded the Government of Assam to rehabilitate the ex-BLT cadres at the earliest and to provide them financial assistance for their employment.

The organization raised the demand once again as per resolution taken in the executive body meeting of the Co-ordination Committee of Ex-BLT Welfare Society, outside BTR, held on Sunday. In this connection, general secretary of the organization, Bistiram Narzary informed that the meeting was held in the Socio-Cultural Complex of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Guwahati. The meeting commenced with president Santanu Basumatary in the chair. Chief Executive Member of the Bodo-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), Mihiniswar Basumatary was also present in the meeting wherein detailed discussion was held over various issues of the Ex-BLT cadres as well as the burning problems of the Bodo community.

As per other resolutions taken in the same meeting, the Ex-BLT Welfare Society demanded the government to grant hills' area tribal status to the Bodo community living in the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts as per Section 8 of the BTC Accord and Section 6.1 of the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord, to conduct BKWAC election at the earliest by notifying the Bodo villages outside BTR and forming the BKWAC constituencies, and to provincialize the unprovincialized schools outside the BTR as per Section 6.3 of the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord

The Ex-BLT Welfare Society, as per another resolution taken in the meeting, further called upon the BTR Accord signatory organizations, Government of Assam and the Government of India to clarify whether the Bodo villages under the Sonitpur and Biswanath districts would be included in the BTR or not. The organizations also called upon the Bodo community political leaders, Bodo community frontal organizations to work together with unity and integration to resolve the political, social and academic problems of the Bodo community in view of the current situation.
