Demand to stop construction of Bogibeel Toll Gate

DIBRUGARH: The All Dibrugarh District Students' Union (ADDSU) and Dibrugarh District Committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), in association with Barbaruah regional unit of AASU and Madhupur, Bogibeel and Barbaruah units of AJYCP, staged one-hour National Highway blockade near Bogibeel bridge in support of their demand to stop construction of Bogibeel Toll Gate.

The leaders of both the organizations, while briefing to media persons on Monday, stated that the construction of Bogibeel Toll Gate near the Bogibeel Railway-cum-Road Bridge would bring immense sufferings to patients and students of Dhemaji, Dhakhuakhana, Majuli and other flood-prone under developed areas. They said that patients of these areas who usually visit Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for treatment and students for pursuing their higher studies in Dibrugarh University or other educational institutions in Dibrugarh, would now have to incur more financial burden due to heavy payment in the proposed toll gate. The leaders were of the opinion that the government, considering all such aspects should stop construction of toll gate immediately and give financial respite to people of the areas.
