Tezpur: In a bid to create awareness about the various types of foods and vegetables and their nutritional value among the people, Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar flagged off a Poshan Rath as part of the month-long Rashtriya Poshti Maah, under the Poshan Abhiyaan flagship programme being implemented in the district simultaneously with the rest of the country.

The rath, which will travel all over the district during the month, has on display a large variety of locally available green, leafy and other vegetables and an official from the Social Welfare department will explain the nutritional value of the vegetables on display. A song especially recorded for the Poshan Maah by Tezpur Urban CDPO Ruby Kalita will be played along with the rath to attract people. A street play on nutrition by Borsola ICDS project was also organized on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar said the activity would go a long way towards attracting the people to come forward and actively participate in the campaign and turn the Poshan Abhiyaan into a mass movement in order to make the country free from malnutrition.

Senior district administration officials and heads of various line departments along with a large number of Anganwadi workers, helpers, supervisors, CDPOs and other officials of the Social Welfare were also present during the flagging off ceremony.

A large number of activities have been taken up at the block as well as community level as part of the Poshan Maah in line with the five themes of first 1000 days of the child, anaemia, diarrhoea, hand washing and sanitation and nutritional food. The programme aims to address the issue of malnutrition and improve the nutritional outcomes for children, adolescents, pregnant women and lactating mothers through a targeted approach and convergence of various nutrition-related schemes under various line departments.
