LAKHIMPUR: Two silk farms were reduced to ashes by devastating blaze that broke out in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district on Tuesday.
As per report, the fire broke out after an unidentified person kindled fire to burn stubble of paddy and mustard plants in the paddy field of Hiloidari village under the subdivision. The fire instantly turned menacing and spread to an extensive area. The flickering flames instantly covered the silk farm, owned by Ramen Kumar Gogoi, resident of No. 1 Hiloidari village. The devastating blaze also burnt another silk farm owned by Gondheswar Phukan of the same village. Fire gutted over 200 Som trees (Persea bombycina), in growing stage, which are used to rear muga silkworm. The affected farmers claimed that the devastating blaze destroyed properties worth around Rs 6 lakh.
