JAGIROAD: Development works under Mayong Development Block in the district of Morigaon have come to a standstill due to the absence of the Block Development Officer (BDO) since more than six months.

The BDO of the block, Bidyut Jyoti Bora was transferred on March 9 this year and subsequently, the BDO of Roha Development Block in the district of Nagaon was directed to join block. Due to NRC duty, the officer could not join Mayong Development Block and the BDO of Moirabary Development Block was temporarily engaged as in-charge of the block. But this officer also could not join the office following NRC engagement and since then the Mayong DB is running without a full-fledged BDO.

Newly-elected Panchayat representatives are facing problems as their schemes have not been sanctioned. According to sources, fund worth Rs 30 crore is lying unused in the block. People have urged the government to appoint a full-fledged BDO in the block so that development schemes can be implemented.
