DHUBRI : Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta rode a bike along the international border roads in the Golokganj sector of the Dhubri district on Sunday to celebrate conferring of the President's Colour Award to Assam Police.

The DGP, who arrived here on Saturday, travelled extensively and visited various points of the border, including the riverine border, with high officials of BSF and held meetings.

The DGP inaugurated the newly-constructed Police Community Hall at the Dhubri Police Reserve accompanied by Dhubri Superintendent of Police, Abhijit Gurav Dilip, and a host of other senior police officials on Saturday.

Talking to mediapersons at the border, Mahanta said that it was matter pride for Assam that Assam Police was conferred the prestigious President's Colours Award and that it was ranked 9th in the country.

"This award will be formally given to the Assam Police in grand function being organized at the Nehru Stadium, Guwahati by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 10. To celebrate the occasion, a memorable parade will be held and martyrs who laid down their lives while discharging duties will be remembered for their sacrifices," the DGP said.

Mahanta said that Assam Police is celebrating this occasion as National Integration Ride from Dhubri to Sadia to disseminate the message about the achievement by Assam Police and various other activities are being carried for the benefits of people, including promoting sports and detection of cancer camps.

The Assam Police Bike ride, led by the DGP kicked off at Rakhalpath, was felicitated at various points along the border by people and BSF jawans.
