LAKHIMPUR: Dhakuakhana Government MV School is one of the oldest academic institutions of Lakhimpur district. The school was established in 1872 and it will enter in 150 years in the next year.

In this connection, the local public have initiated steps to celebrate the glorious sesquicentennial jubilee of the school in the upcoming year. As part of the move, a public meeting was organized in the school premises on Sunday in order to discuss about the celebration and chalk out due programmes. The meeting commenced with academician Purnananda Gogoi in the chair under the management of headmistress Padma Koch. After detailed discussion, the meeting constituted a strong celebration committee with Dhemaji MLA-cum-Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu as president, Dhakuakhana College professor Sewok Chandra Chutia as working president and headmistress Padma Koch as secretary, Shubha Das, Kamakhya Saikia and Naren Saikia as assistant secretaries. Noted intellectual figure of the State, Homen Borgohain started his academic life in this school.
