Dhakuakhana Municipal Board constituted in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: After the constitution of North Lakhimpur, Bihpuriya and Narayanpur Municipal Boards on Wednesday, the Dhakuakhana Municipal Board of Lakhimpur district was also constituted on Thursday. Notably, the erstwhile Dhakuakhana Nagar Samiti was upgraded to a municipal board last year by issuing a government notification along with Bihpuriya and Narayanpur Nagar Samitis. On the same day, the 10 Ward Commissioners of the maiden Dhakuakhana Municipal Board took oath as per the Municipal Act, 1959.

On this occasion, a ceremonial programme was organized in the Dhakuakhana Municipal Board Office located at Baligaon in Dhakuakhana town. In the programme, Lakhimpur ADC-cum-SDO (Civil) of Dhakuakhana, Arindam Baruah administered the oath to the newly-elected Ward Commissioners. On the other hand, Rajib Das, the Ward Commissioner of Ward No. 10 took oath as chairperson while Chandama Gogoi, the Ward Commissioner of Ward No. 7 took oath as deputy chairperson. The Ward Commissioners formally selected them as chairperson and deputy chairperson on Thursday. Local MLA Naba Kumar Doley took oath as member of the board by dint of post. Circle Officer of Dhakuakhana Rahul Pegu, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Soumarjyoti Bhuyan, Assistant Commissioner, Manabjyoti Das, Lakhimpur Zila Parishad chairperson Manju Borgohain, Dhakuakhana district unit BJP president Pradip Chamuah, Mandal president Sunil Doley a host of seniors citizens and local public were present in the programme.

Notably, ruling party BJP has constituted the Dhakuakhana Municipal Board too along with the other three municipal boards of Lakhimpur district, viz- North Lakhimpur, Bihpuriya and Narayanpur Municipal Boards. In the recent Municipal Board Election of the State, 9 Ward Commissioners of Dhakuakhana Municipal Board registered their victory representing the ruling party. They are - Gunalata Lagasu Kutum of Ward No. 2, Sangita Baruah of Ward No. 3, Manik Baruah of Ward No. 4 : Tilen Das of Ward No. 5, Swaroop Konwar of Ward No. 6 : Chandama Gogoi of Ward No. 7, Dipali Das of Ward No. 8, Aparupa Dihingiya Dutta of Ward No. 9 and Rajib Das of Ward No. 10. On the other hand, independent candidate Bogen Konwar won the election as the Ward Commissioners of Ward No. 1. This independent candidate had joined the ruling party just after the election result was declared, thereby wiping out the existence of the opposition in Dhakuakhana Municipal Board.
