LAKHIMPUR: "Rather than chasing the mirage of government jobs, or going to other States in search of jobs, the educated, enterprising youths of the State can generate self-employment with the fast food business. It is a profitable business which can be started by investing a low amount of capital. The youths of the State can check the outflow of our revenue to other States being involved in the business," said Dhrubajyoti Saikia, the proprietor of Deez Fast Food and Restaurant unit, Sikkim, who is also a noted chef, in a press meet convened at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Saturday.

Dhrubajyoti Saikia is a young entrepreneur, who hails from Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district and is at present an inhabitant of Sikkim (Ranipur) by profession. Of late, this young entrepreneur has initiated a series of training programmes on fast food preparation skills among the youths of the State, so that they can get themselves involved in fast food business with a view to generating opportunity for self-employment and empowering the local youths to capture the fast food market to check the outflow of the State revenue. Dhrubajyoti Saikia, who got himself involved in the business after resigning from a lucrative job in a national-level media house in New Delhi, has taken up the initiative with a mottos 'Self-employed Assamese, Self Reliant Assam' and 'Self-improvement through fast food business'.

In the press meet, Saikia informed that he at first started the training programme online on seeing the miserable plight of the Assamese youths working in other States during the lockdown situation. Over 500 youths of the State took the online training and some of them have established them with the business now. Being enthusiastic at this, Saikia has taken up the attempt to conduct the training practically and offline in order to empower the enterprising youths.

"We need to usher in the culture of work for the empowerment of the community. The agitation on the street has taken away our livelihood. So we need to herald a revolution of work. If we can hold the crop fields with us, there will be no foreigners in the State. If we can capture the market, there will be no apprehension of State revenue being out flowed," Saikia stated.

He further informed that the preparation skills of 25 items of fast food were taught in a week-long training programme at a nominal amount of fees. During the training, Dhrubajyoti Saikia is assisted by Muskan Subba, a food specialist from Sikkim, while teaching the preparation skills of Tibetan dishes like momo, thukpa, phale.

Meanwhile, Saikia has already completed two such training programmes in Lakhimapur district at Ghilamora and Bihpuriya with an admiring support from a number of youth trainees. Such a training programme will start in North Lakhimpur town at Ahuchaol Gaon from April 6. He has planned to organize the training programme across the State in the upcoming days.
