SARUPATHAR: A pall of gloom has descended Padum Bahadur Shrestha’s house at Hatighuli in Barpathar, 40 km from Golaghat. Shrestha was a soldier of the No.39 Gurkha Regiment of India. He was killed during firing when the Indian Army on Sunday carried out heavy artillery strikes targeting four terror launch pads and several Pakistani military positions in Neelam Valley in PoK.

Hundreds of people thronged the residence to convey their condolence to the bereaved family. Serestha’s mother said, “My son Padum Bahadur Shrestha was a brave soldier, he just came home four months ago but destiny had something else in store. Now his body will come home, not him.” She added, “My son died for the country, we are proud of him.” Shresthat leaves behind his wife and three children.
