Guwahati: A joint team of NDRF and SDRF personnel today recovered two dead bodies from a Hyundai i-10 car that had fallen into a river at Sisiborgaon under Dhemaji district in Upper Assam.

According to reports, the car where five people traveling in, fell into the Gelua River as the railing in a bridge was missing. As soon as the car fell down, it was gulped up by the river, leading to a massive operation for the recovery of the persons who were in the vehicle. Before long, teams from the NDRF and SDRF, as well as personnel from the police and local administration were deployed to rescue the persons trapped in the vehicle that was completely submerged in the river.

Locals were able to rescue two persons -- Srumai Kalita and her daughter Babita Kalita. Earlier in the morning today, the rescue personnel were able to locate the dead bodies of Tankeswar Kalita, Sarumai's husband, and their daughter, Kuku Kalita. However, their driver, a certain Niranjan Mahato, is still missing. A team of the SDRF is continuing its efforts to trace down the last person from the mishap who is still missing, Mahato.

The family, hailing from Lakhimpur's Lilabari are, was headed to Silapathar to attend a marriage when the mishap occurred. The two rescued members of the family, the wife and daughter of the deceased Tankeswar Kalita, are now undergoing treatment at Dibrugarh.
