DIBRUGARH: The Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi College (DHSK College) has set up the first modern science laboratory, first of its kind among the colleges of Northeast India. Affiliated by North East Council's (NEC) Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF), the approximately Rs 5 crore worth laboratory that is set up for the benefit of science students and the teacher researchers of the college, will be open soon for its users.
The laboratory has started a new journey with the addition of almost 23 high capacity instruments such as DNA sequencer, Gradient PCR, FT-IR spectrometer, C-H-N-S-Analyser, Laboratory Brightfield Microscope, pH meter, Laminar air flow, Hot air oven, Magnetic stirrer cum hot plate, Refrigerated centrifuge, Circulating water bath, Incubator shaker, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, Rotary evaporator, RT-polymerase chain reaction system, HPLC system, Water purification system, Measuring balance, Laboratory autoclave, deep freezer, Acid resistant fume hood, Microbial identification system and Turbidity meter.
"The Rs 1.5 crore worth DNA sequencer machine is the fifth of its kind in entire Northeast India. It can detect many inherited diseases and gene disorders of all organisms," said DHSK College Principal Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia. Dr Saikia expressed that there would be a huge impact in research in Northeast India following the setting up of this laboratory "The researchers from other institutions or fields may also take the advantage of the laboratory along with the students and teachers of the college," Dr Saikia added.
