A CORRESPONDENT
DHUBRI: Dhubri district unit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, Dr. Debamoy Sanyal in a press meet held at the party office here on Saturday, claimed the farmers' bills enacted in September would immensely benefit the farmers as the bills empowered the farmers with multiple choices to sell their produces with protection.
Dr. Sanyal said that some sporadic sit-in and demonstrations by some parties, including Congress (I) and social activists, had no support from the farmers in the State or elsewhere in the country.
"The agitators and demonstrators are the same persons who once led the movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and other movements against the BJP government in Dispur. Similarly, the present movement against the farmers' bills is an attempt to mislead the people and farmers as well. But the farmers of Assam have not responded to the movement. You will not find any farmers behind the agitators except some left wing urban supporters. In Dhubri district too, farmers are happy with the new set of bills which indeed will prove to be highly profitable and beneficial when implemented," Dr. Sanyal said.
Replying to a question on middlemen's role in the recent agitation, Dr. Sanyal said the present agitation was nothing but an outrage of frustration by middlemen who hitherto had been reaping the benefits of the sale of agricultural produce by depriving the farmers of their genuine profits.
Dr Sanyal said that the three farmer bills when implemented would give farmers absolute freedom to sell their produce anywhere they want, besides giving them ample opportunities and facilities to promote their trade and business. Apart from these, farmers' empowerment, crop insurance to cover the losses during natural disasters and calamities were some of the provision of protection which would immensely benefit the farmers, Dr. Sanyal said.
He added that in the third bill dealt with essential commodities. This was also in favour of farmers as there would be no binding on stocking the produce during extraordinary situation.
The BJP government by various other ways, including providing soft loan, instruments, seeds, fertilizers, was making an all-out effort to double the income of farmers in the country by 2022 and these three bills were aimed towards fulfilling the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Many district-level leaders of the party, including former district unit president Dipak Kumar Saha, were also present in the press meet.
